Starting salary range for 2020-21 is $57,354 – $65,815 for a 1.0 FTE, 168-day, academic year contract. New faculty will be contracted for 168-days, plus an additional 3 days to attend Fall Term Instructional Strategies Institute training. Excellent benefit package.

This position is subject to Article 31 of the Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. In the event of a reduction in force, this position may be afforded less protection than non-Article 31 faculty.

Position Title: Mathematics Faculty Division/Department: Mathematics Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary:

Mathematics faculty at LBCC teach the full range of math courses from Basic Mathematics through Differential Equations. The department emphasizes excellence in instruction and encourages professional development, particularly in areas that further the College’s mission, core themes, and strategic goals. In addition to teaching, faculty work on college-wide institutional effectiveness projects, develop curricula, advise students, and serve on committees. Faculty duties may include non-teaching assignments, which may include serving as the department liaison to the Learning Center or satellite campuses.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field. Graduate level coursework must include at least 27-quarter hours of mathematics. Graduate level coursework in statistics, physics or engineering may count toward the fulfillment of the mathematics requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience teaching mathematics at the community college level is highly desirable. Demonstrated evidence of successful work experience and/or special projects with a population of students diverse in race, color, religion, native language, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, marital status, disability, veteran status, age, ethnicity, learning style, interest and ability.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Essential Duties:

Work with the academic division dean, faculty, and staff to develop, implement and assess long-term goals for successful student progression through the mathematics classes required in various associate degree programs.

Work with faculty from other programs and departments to understand and respond to the specific learning needs of students in their programs.

Actively participate in the affairs of the department, division, and college, which includes regularly attending Math Department meetings and collaborating effectively with colleagues.

Work with the Math Department to align the department’s planning and goals with the College’s mission, core themes, and strategic goals.

Design, develop, and implement methods for assessing student progress and competence, and use evidence of student learning to revise curricula and improve instruction.

Teach a variety of mathematics courses, including development of course curriculum materials, outlines and syllabi. Deliver instruction using learner-centered strategies. Plan, develop, and deliver classroom lectures and activities using appropriate technology. Course assignments may include day, evening, or online classes.

Keep accurate grade, attendance, outcomes, and other job related records. Be available to students and advise students regarding academic programs.

Explore the growing area of instructional technology and incorporate those that improve and expand student competence. Maintain competency and currency in the subject matter of courses taught and in teaching skills.

Work on a planned program of professional development that aligns with instructional needs of the College to fulfill its mission.

Participate actively in the affairs of the College, including serving on College committees.

Promote excellence, enthusiasm, and excitement in the teaching of mathematics.

Work effectively with students and staff of various cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ages. Engage and interact effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.

Communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Perform other duties as assigned.
