Loyola University Chicago is committed to environmental sustainability, having transformed its campuses to meet energy, water, and waste efficiencies that have consistently ranked the University in the top 5% of green campuses nationally. The School of Environmental Sustainability ( SES ) serves 380 undergraduate and 70 graduate students, and is housed within a state-of-the-art geo-thermally heated/cooled building complex containing a 3,100 sq ft greenhouse, aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, teaching & research labs, environmental analytical lab, ecotoxicology lab, and a ‘green’ dormitory. The campus prioritizes sustainability with energy efficient LEED certified buildings, permeable pavement, green roof installations, and student-run urban gardens supplying the LUC Farmer’s Market. The Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Campus ( LUREC ) has a wetland restoration project in a 20-acre wetland, a 5-acre organic farm, and is a venue for three-week summer field courses and for faculty and student research in sustainable agriculture, ecology, and wetland restoration. The School of Environmental Sustainability at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning in August 2021. The SES seeks to diversify its faculty and is encouraging underrepresented minorities, women, and people with disabilities to apply. We seek candidates with expertise in environmental health and toxicology to support our Bachelor of Science Programs in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, a 4+1 Dual Degree Program with the MPH, and the Graduate Program in Environmental Science and Sustainability.

The successful candidate will help strengthen the B.S. in Environmental Health, and help develop an Environmental Toxicology concentration at the bachelors and Master’s levels. The SES Environmental Health and 4+1 Programs are offered in close collaboration with the Loyola Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an active research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental health, toxicology, exposure and health risk assessments and others, depending on the individual expertise and program need. Candidates with the rank of Associate Professor must demonstrate a successful record of extramurally funded research involving undergraduate and graduate students and should have experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. Degree in Environmental Health, Toxicology or a closely related field. Undergraduate and/or Master’s degrees in environmental health, public health, environmental science, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology or related fields are desired. Preferred areas of expertise include but are not limited to the environmental fate and/or human health impacts of organic pollutants (in water, soil, air, and human food systems) including pesticides, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, emerging contaminants, and plastics. Candidates interested in incorporating social justice and addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching, service, and/or research and local environmental problems in the Chicago area are particularly encouraged to apply.
