Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Student Engagement is responsible for enhancing the overall educational experience of students through the development of, exposure to, and participation in Student Organizations and programming opportunities. Assists in the analysis of the effectiveness of and establishes future direction for functional policies and programs.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

Assists the director in long-term planning, strategic alignment, and management oversight of assigned area.

Supervises the day-to-day operations of student engagement initiatives, including departmental employees, providing guidance and direction to staff for services and programs.

Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists the Director in developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.

Provides oversight and advisement of the Student Organizations Council (SOC), Dance Marathon, and co-advising the Homecoming Student Council.

Promote participation in Registered Student Organizations, Homecoming, SOC, and various other student focused organizations and events.

Oversee the registration processes and program/event approvals for Student Organizations.

Participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to student organizations and events.

Creates, develops, and implements comprehensive and systematic leadership training for all student organizations.

Oversee the development, administration and analysis of program/initiative assessments. Preparing and statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to guide decision making and program/initiative improvement.

Collaborates with other campus departments and services to support RSOs, programming initiatives, and ensure awareness of student issues/concerns.

Responsible for ensuring all programs, activities, and services comply with university, state and federal regulations.

Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility.

Other Duties:

This position does require some evening and weekend time commitments.

Serves on institutional committees representing the interests of the department.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Two years of professional full-time experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution in student organizations, student programming, fraternity & sorority life, leadership development or a related area.

Two years of graduate assistant and/or intern experience may count as one year of full-time experience.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience with personal computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and desktop publishing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four years of professional full-time experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution in student government, student organizations, student programming, fraternity & sorority life, leadership development or a related area.

Experience working with student programming boards and/or experience organizing large programmatic efforts.

Experience with workshop and program facilitation and implementation in the areas of leadership development and organizational development.

Experience in developing systems utilizing technology and software in the administration of student organizations.

Experience with the Campus Labs (Anthology) platform.

Experience hiring and supervising professional and/or student employees.

Experience supporting racially minoritized students

Experience with Banner, Workday, or similar software systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of student involvement theories and student development objectives and how they pertain to student success and persistence.

Knowledge and understanding of management principles, practices, and standards, as applied to public institutions.

Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures in alignment with state and university guidelines and codes.

Knowledge of Human Resource practices related to recruiting, hiring, and supervising full-time A&P and student OPS staff.

Knowledge of FERPA.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Employee development and performance management skills.

Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.

Skill in active learning by understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relationships with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.

$48,000 - $51,000 annually
