Schedule Information



Per course schedule; maintains a minimum of 15 contact hours of teaching and 10 office hours per week for student consultation; evening and weekend instruction may be required. Serves on college committees; participates in departmental and division initiatives.



Weeks per fiscal year



Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May)

Position Description and Duties



Harper College is currently accepting applications for two full-time tenure track faculty positions in biology teaching courses in either environmental biology or general biology at the non-majors and majors level, with a focus on cellular and organismal biology.

The Biology department includes 13 full-time faculty who teach majors and non-majors general biology, environmental biology, organismal biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology. We have modern lab facilities stocked with a large selection of teaching materials including models, cadavers, and other specimens.

The successful candidate will possess excellent classroom management skills, be able to engage and effectively communicate with a diverse student body, demonstrate the ability to use technology in teaching, and maintain the highest possible standards of laboratory safety.

Faculty are expected to teach both laboratory and non-laboratory based biology courses, participate in institutional and departmental committee meetings, maintain professional skills through regular professional development, and attend other activities appropriate to higher education faculty.



Educational Requirements



Minimum of a Master's degree in Biology or related sub-discipline with 18 graduate hours in Biology required.



Experience Requirements



Community college and/or university experience teaching laboratory and non-laboratory based biology classes is required with a minimum of two years teaching experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching laboratory-based courses focused in either environmental biology or majors-level general biology.
