Assistant Professor - Bone Marrow Transplant
The Section of Hospital Medicine is seeking multiple BC/BE
Internal Medicine physicians to provide care on a Hospital Medicine
ward service as well as the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) service at
the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Job Summary/Duties: The BMT Hospitalists will
provide overnight coverage of bone marrow transplant and other
malignant hematology service patients. These positions also include
a combination of traditional hospital medicine assignments. The
responsibilities include direct clinical care, supervision and
teaching of residents and medical students, and research
pursuits.
Schedule: There is a mix of day, night, and
swing shifts. Most assignments are scheduled in 1-week
blocks.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide in-house, overnight coverage for BMT service, including new admissions and care of existing patients.
- Lead “rapid response” and “code blue” teams.
- Monitor progress of admitted patients, adjust therapeutic interventions, and engage specialty consultation when appropriate.
- Invasive diagnostic procedures to include lumbar puncture, paracentesis, and others as competency permits
- Serve as attending on traditional resident-led ward teams, attending on the resident-led medical consultation services, and lead a hospitalist team including an intern.
- Teach in the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
- Directly teach medical students in all four years.
- Strive to improve clinical processes, as well as patient care, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
- Participate in the education of nursing staff on the units.
- Participate in the quality improvement framework of the units.
- Collaborate with researchers in the Center for Clinical Effectiveness and Center for Health Informatics.
- Regularly attend section/divisional/departmental meetings and educational events, as assigned.
- Other duties, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Must have all of the following prior to effective date of appointment: 1) Medical degree (MD, DO, or foreign equivalent); 2) Board eligibility in internal medicine as defined by completion of ACGME accredited internal medicine residency; 4) Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board,; and 5) DEA license for Schedule II-V, and all independent prescriptive authority therein.
