In addition, NJCU will soon open a campus location in Fort Monmouth, NJ.

 

JOB SUMMARY: New Jersey City University (NJCU) invites applications for the position of [Executive] Director of the Office of Research, Grants, and Sponsored Programs (ORGSP).  The ORGSP is responsible for all externally funded sponsored projects, grants, and contracts that foster research, scholarship, and innovation. The [executive] director oversees and directs pre-and post-award activities and ensures compliance with all federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies and regulations for academic research and sponsored projects. The ORGSP ensures compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Research Integrity guidelines and provides oversight for relevant activities.

 

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President, the [executive] director of ORGSP plays a key role in increasing institutional capacity for external funding at an urban university in one of the most diverse cities in the country.  The director supports NJCU faculty and staff in their pursuit of external funding for research, professional development, and student support services.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the academic community and will create multiple opportunities to assist faculty in all facets of grant development.  In addition, the director works with grantees and the university's Finance Office to establish and maintain systematic reporting systems for all activities involving the ORGSP, including addressing audit requirements. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The executive director is expected to:

 

  • Identify and categorize possible funding sources and share the pertinent information with the faculty and staff in a timely manner. 
  • Plan and deliver regular workshops and training programs for faculty and professional staff to plan, develop, and write grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Develop strategies to promote the growth of faculty research and grant productivity.
  • Plan and deliver compliance training programs for faculty and staff
  • Develop and prepare proposal budgets.
  • Review proposals for formatting, accuracy, and adherence to funding agency requirements
  • Complete agency forms, assurances, and certifications, and when necessary, provide institutional statistics.
  • Assist with online proposal applications and electronic submissions
  • Negotiate award terms and conditions with federal and non-federal sponsors
  • Monitor the implementation of externally funded projects to ensure that they meet their commitments and promised deliverables.
  • Communicate and negotiate with representatives from granting agencies, contracting agencies, pass-through entities, and sub-awardees, in consultation with the university's Finance Office.
  • Facilitate partnerships with other institutions to collaborate on joint grant proposals.
  • Serves as the university's principal compliance officer for grants and sponsored projects
  • Monitor, administer, and help revise relevant institutional policies and procedures related to research and sponsored projects.
  • Record the research, grant, and sponsored activities and relevant data systematically, which are consistent with the external and internal audits and/or accreditation requirements.
  • Report and analyze the research, grant, and sponsored activities and data regularly. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Minimum Education 

The position requires a minimum of post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree, plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

 

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years of progressive and successful administrative experience in sponsored grants and contracts administration in a university, industry, or government environment.
  • Sound and current knowledge of federal grants and contract regulations
  • Proven skills in administering programs, managing professional staff, and planning
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills,
  • Successful track records as a grant writer
  • Credentials as a Certified Research Administrator (CRA).
