About the Opportunity:
The Student Services Advisor is responsible for coordinating, advising, and assisting in all aspects of the student's experience while students are enrolled in courses and programs based at the Northeastern University - Vancouver campus. The role also ensures that support to students' enrollments, accounts, study permits, and logistics have been effectively managed and communicated. Strategies deployed to be successful in this role will ensure that students enrolled in Vancouver campus location programs (Online, hybrid, and on-ground) will experience a high level of satisfaction with their experience. This role will work collaboratively across the university's various academic, enrollment, financial, international, and student services offices. The Student Services Advisor role will report to the Dean of the Vancouver Campus.

With a holistic mindset, this person will take a proactive approach to provide comprehensive advising. While they will regularly respond to students inquires, they will also proactively identify and advise students where students may need guidance and support in maintaining study permit conditions, cultural adaptations, academic support, and more. They will also assist with proactive future planning that will effectively anticipate the future needs in the student lifecycle, related to immigration regulations and other support measures.

The Student Services Advisor will generally support the broad range of student services at the Vancouver campus location, which includes but is not limited to advising, orientations, information sessions, and support services grounded in best practices in service of the goal to retain and engage international students in the university community. Additionally, this role will communicate and coordinate with various departments at all Northeastern campus locations regarding campus coordination and general inquiries.

This is a temporary position with the possibility to transfer to a permanent role after one year, in line with the campus operational plan.

Responsibilities:
Duties include:

  • Support the overall enrollment and retention goals of the Vancouver campus location through comprehensive student support.
  • Provide support for the cultural transition and experience for students, and offer ongoing academic guidance for successful performance, in partnership with campus student services staff.
  • Delivering orientation programs for initial and transferring students and ensure a smooth transition to the Vancouver campus. This includes all intake and transfers procedures for international students.
  • Provide some support and monitoring maintenance of study permit conditions, enrollment status, and compliance with federal regulations for international students on campus.
  • Advising on requirements and timing related to students' co-op planning, including academic trajectory in conjunction with academic advising staff.
  • Managing and solving any status issues for international students and providing support and information for resolution of study permit challenges as necessary.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external university partners and assist in managing the myriad aspects of the student experience, including course registration, student financial accounts, co-op coordination, career services, and degree completion.
  • Utilize CRM (Salesforce), Sunapsis and student information systems to reflect accurate student record and student reporting functions.
  • Support programming efforts through logistical and academic coordination of a variety of degree and non-degree programming efforts. This may include coordinating with other Vancouver campus location staff, faculty, and program staff, as well as central campus administration.

    Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years' experience in a comparable student success role
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Exceptional level of attention to details, customer service, and stakeholder management skills in order to support Canadian international student services and to handle cases.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in intercultural relations issues and strategies.

Preferred:
  • Fluency in languages other than English.
  • Experience living or working abroad.
