The Ocean Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University is seeking applications for a full-time, joint tenured or tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month academic appointment, and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds, beginning fall of 2021. Applicants will be considered at all faculty ranks for a position in environmental engineering with a focus on marine environs. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong, fundamental knowledge in a core specialization of environmental or ocean engineering and the ability to apply experimental, analytical, data-science, or modeling methods to solve environmental engineering problems relevant to the oceans, whether inshore/estuarial, nearshore, or offshore.  We are particularly interested in applicants capable of contributing to interdisciplinary teams and working in environmental engineering areas that interface with marine sciences. These include but are not limited to: coastal eco-system engineering, contaminant transport, coastal resilience and sustainability, natural marine processes in engineering design, observing systems and networks, and management of anthropogenic impact on nearshore systems. Applicants in any area of environmental engineering are encouraged to apply; however, it is noted that Texas A&M University at Galveston is a special-purpose institution for the specific instruction and study of marine and maritime science, engineering, and business.

Candidates applying at the assistant professor rank should demonstrate rigorous training in a core area of environmental or ocean engineering, and strong potential to affect the field through original scholarship, excellent teaching and student mentoring, and service to the university and profession.  Applicants at the associate professor rank must have an established research record demonstrating the ability to advance environmental engineering through the application of fundamental knowledge, evidence of excellence in teaching and student mentoring, and should demonstrate the potential to become a leader in their field. Applicants at the full professor rank must be a leader in their field with an international reputation for research, teaching and service.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate level; advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate research students; develop an independent, externally funded research program; participate in all aspects of one of the department’s activities; and serve the profession.  Strong written and verbal communication skills are expected. Applicants are invited to consult the department's website to review our academic and research programs, including the vision and mission of the department and the College of Engineering.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in environmental engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline at the time of the appointment.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, diversity statement and a list of four references (including postal addresses, phone numbers and email addresses) by applying for this specific position at http://apply.interfolio.com/81514. Full consideration will be given to applications received by January 10, 2021.  Applications received after that date may be considered until the position is filled.  It is anticipated the appointment will begin fall 2021.
