The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University 20 years in a row among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities.

Duties include:

  • Teaching multiple sections of THEO 111 (Theological Foundations), which is the foundational course in theology required of all undergraduate students;
  • Service and participation in the life of the Department and University;
  • A typical course load of four courses per semester.

In addition to THEO 111, there is also the possibility of occasionally teaching an upper-division elective.

The Teaching Professor position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the potential after six years for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with a rolling two-year renewable contract.

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in theology.
  • Demonstrated excellence in student-centered teaching and active learning.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, and university administrators.

Preferred qualifications: Background or specialization in one or more of the following areas:

  • Mujerista theology
  • Womanist theology
  • Christian spiritualities

To ensure consideration, interested candidates must apply on the Xavier University website.  Please submit an application letter, curriculum vitae, and evidence of teaching effectiveness no later than January 15, 2021. In addition to applying on-line, three letters of recommendation should be sent, via email to theologysearch@xavier.edu.

Xavier is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment; we welcome a broad spectrum of candidates, and particularly invite applications from women, ethnic and racial minorities, and other individuals who are under-represented in the profession.  Xavier University is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity.
