Assistant Principal, Middle School Department: Middle School Location: Washington, DC

Sidwell Friends, a PK-12 Quaker day school located in Washington, DC seeks an Assistant Principal for its Middle School (Grades 5-8) division. The Assistant Principal is responsible for student discipline, including family meetings related to discipline and academics; managing the 5/6 and 7/8 Middle School schedules, including coordinating and communicating schedule changes as needed; helping to coordinate special schedules; scheduling substitute teachers; attending meetings of the Student Support Team and Deans Group; acting as an Academic Dean by overseeing department heads meetings; shared responsibility for faculty evaluation; shared oversight of the Middle School Curriculum and general support of the daily life and running of the Middle School, including mentoring new teachers, support for teachers, program and students.
The Assistant Principal is expected to attend evening and weekend events such as dances and transition meetings for parents. Experience and comfort working with data management systems is necessary, as is evidence of previous leadership experience in a school setting.
Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree (an advanced degree is preferred). Previous experience in administration and /or leadership roles and at least five years of classroom teaching are required. This is a 12-month, full-time position.
