Position Purpose: The Behavioral Intervention Team Case Manager supports learning by coordinating intervention and support efforts to assist students facing crises, experiencing life stressors, and encountering barriers that impede success. This non-clinical position is designed to aid the institution in promoting student safety and success.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team.
  • Coordinate case management services for students referred to the Behavioral Intervention Team.
  • Utilize Maxient to document case notes, analyze data, and monitor on-going concerns.
  • Serve on the On-Call Administrator rotation.
  • Provide risk assessments and make appropriate recommendations and referrals.
  • Coordinate care within the community as well as across campus resources such as Counseling and Psychological Services, the Disability Resource Office, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of Student Accounts, Health Services, and the Center for Student Success.
  • Administer, evaluate and process requests for Medical Leave and requests for reinstatement.
  • Assess need for Involuntary Interim Leaves, communicate the requirements for such leaves, and assist with return to campus as appropriate.
  • Develop relationships with local hospitals to enhance and streamline admit and discharge process for AU students.
  • Partner with Admissions Office to coordinate intervention with incoming students of concern.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations regarding the Behavioral Intervention Team for various audiences, including faculty, staff and paraprofessional staff (e.g. Resident Assistants and Peer Advisors).
  • Perform annual analysis of the types and frequency of concerning behavior reported to the BIT and utilize results to develop campus resources to address common student needs.
  • Develop educational programs regarding alcohol and other drugs in partnership with the Athletic Department and Residence Life.


  • Essential Job Requirements:

    Education:

    • Masters in a mental health-related discipline (e.g. Social Work, Counseling) required.
    • Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in the state of Illinois preferred.


    Experience:

    • Full-time, professional experience in higher education or related field required.
    • Experience providing crisis intervention.


    Skills:

    • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
    • Ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships with all campus constituencies.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and parents.
    • Knowledge of student data and communication systems
    • Flexibility with evening and weekend work hours.


    Special Requirements:

    • Eligible for state licensure as a mental health provider as outlined by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (www.idfpr.com).


    Physical Requirements:

    • Sitting, standing, moving about campus, and computer use.
