Pay Range: $43,576 - $45,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Position Summary:
The Coordinator of Multicultural Programs will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing culturally responsive programs for the benefit of all students, with targeted emphasis upon multicultural students (specifically Latinx, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Black/African-American and Native-American) to support their academic and cultural success to the University. This position will be secondary academic advisor to students in the Diversity Scholars Program; develop and coordinate programs which address multicultural contributions and issues to educate the University community (including ethnic heritage months and the annual cultural celebrations, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Dia de los Muertos, etc); assist multicultural students and their organizations in organizing cultural and educational programs; and serve as a resource for the Peer Advising on the College Experience mentoring program, UNITY and other multicultural student organizations. They will assist in advertisement and promotion of the Office of Multicultural Affairs; maintain the web page as assigned for programs; design, produce and deliver communications for the Office of Multicultural Affairs such as the newsletter and other promotional material using available resources as assigned; serve as a point of contact to work with campus, community committees and groups in support of multicultural efforts, develop strategies for the recruitment and retention of multicultural students; and provide support and advocacy to multicultural students. They will also maintain records related to all of the above duties. The Coordinator will also assume responsibilities of the Director in the absence of the Director.


Minimum Qualifications:
A completed Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of related work experience; a completed Master’s degree can substitute for two of the three years of prior experience;

Experience in programs management and balancing multiple priorities, deadlines and budgets;

Demonstrated experience:
  • Working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds; underserved and/or under-represented domestic multicultural populations.
  • Recommending, developing and evaluating program procedures and recommending changes;
  • Program Planning and implementation;
  • Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials;
  • Explaining policies and/or procedures to others;
  • Using computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet research and social media engagement;
  • Providing leadership and problem-solving skills in analyzing diversity and multicultural education needs, specifically to college students;
  • Working with students in a mentoring/advising role;
  • Working collaboratively with other student service professionals, faculty, and community agencies.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent in higher education or other related area;

3+ years of experience organizing, coordinating, and/or managing academic retention programs;

Knowledge of UI departments and services;

Bilingual in Spanish.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to: work weekends, after regular business hours and holidays.
