DEFINITION
The Vice President of Instruction serves as a visionary leader in a changing environment who practices cross collaboration with campus and community stakeholders to plan, develop and implement innovative approaches to enhance academic excellence and student learning. As the College's Chief Instructional Officer, the Vice President of Instruction serves as a critical link between the President, Board, and faculty on academic issues. The Vice President of Instruction participates in college-wide governance through the College's shared governance structure and as a member of the executive cabinet administrators. The Vice President of Instruction leads a team of Associate Vice Presidents, Deans, Associate Deans, and Directors who support the work for which the position is responsible.

SUPERVISION RECIEVED AND EXERCISED

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:
1. Leads a diverse instruction team including training, coaching, supervising, and evaluating managers and works closely with the team on planning, budgeting, and implementation of changing regulations.
2. Provides leadership for educational master planning and institutional effectiveness through the maintenance of institutional program review processes.
3. Serves as the College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer to ensure ongoing and timely compliance with accreditation standards.
4. Develops and oversees the College’s enrollment management plan and assumes responsibility for managing scheduled classes to meet the College’s enrollment targets.
5. Ensures the College is compliant with all state and federal regulations on instruction, as well as College Board policies and administrative procedures.
6. Support the coordination of curriculum development, review, and revision in collaboration with the Academic Senate.
7. Oversees and monitors implementation and maintenance of outcomes assessment protocols at course, program, and institutional levels as well as for academic support services offered by Instruction team offices.
8. Oversees the development of college publications such as the college catalog, class schedule, and related academic publications.
9. Serves as the College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer to work collaboratively with the executive management team, faculty, and campus leaders to ensure ongoing and timely compliance with accreditation standards.
10. Provides oversight for budget development and monitoring for all academic divisions and academic support services within the Instruction Team.
11. Collaborates with Academic Senate on all academic and professional matters.
12. Oversees the College’s research activities with the Office of Research and Institutional Effectiveness.
13. Coordinates credit and noncredit programs with learning support services, including learning resources, learning assistance, and tutoring designed to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
14. Oversees the development and implementation of grants with the Grants Office and other restricted-funded programs.
15. Provides leadership for and builds effective relationships strengthen and expand support programs and resources ensuring a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices in serving students and hiring employees.
16. Selects, trains, motivates, and directs the assigned department personnel; evaluates and reviews work for acceptability and conformance with department standards, including program and project priorities and performance evaluations; works with employees on performance issues; implements discipline procedures; responds to staff questions and concerns.
17. Participates on committees, task forces, and special assignments, including, but not limited to Screening and Selection Committees and affiliated trainings. Prepares and delivers oral presentations related to assigned areas if needed.
18. Provides a working and learning environment that is free from prohibited discrimination, harassment and retaliation (DHR), and provided by applicable law and District policies. Assists in addressing discrimination and harassment and retaliation against individuals who bring these complaints forward through recognizing and reporting possible incidents to Human Resources.
19. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Education & Experience:
1. Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university with major coursework in any academic discipline.
2. Three (3) full-time equivalent years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in higher education at the dean level or higher and college-level teaching.

Working Environment:
Incumbents work in an office and classroom environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Incumbents may interact with upset staff, students, and/or the public in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.


Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required. Must be able to work in a standard office and classroom setting; the ability to understand and comprehend written and electron materials; and the ability to receive, review, and respond to communications in person and over and through various media. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 20 pounds with or without the use of equipment.
