Position Annoucement

The Chemistry Department at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. As part of our strategic plan to expand and enhance STEM education and Discipline Based Education Research (DBER) in the Department and on campus, we seek candidates who focus on chemistry education. We will accept applications for appointment at all ranks. A Ph.D. in Chemistry at time of application is required. Postdoctoral research or teaching experience is preferred.

 

The successful candidates will contribute to the teaching mission of the Department, establish productive collaborations with the interdisciplinary STEM TRAIL Center (https://www.unomaha.edu/academic-affairs/stem-trail-center/index.php) and actively seek external funding to establish a productive DBER research program to develop innovative ways to improve student success. Teaching foundational courses and in-depth courses in chemistry is expected. The chemistry subdiscipline is open, but the Department in experiencing particularly strong enrollment growth in organic chemistry and biochemistry.

 

The Chemistry Department currently has 16 faculty members serving over 100 undergraduate majors and supporting approximately 900 students per semester from other disciplines in undergraduate courses (https://www.unomaha.edu/college-of-arts-and-sciences/chemistry/index.php). Undergraduate education is the primary mission of the Department, and research involving undergraduate students is supported by the university and expected for tenure track faculty. Faculty in the Department are committed to excellence in chemistry education and many are actively engaged in multidisciplinary DBER projects, including programs supported by the National Science Foundation.  The Department offers an ACS accredited Bachelor’s degree as well as Bachelor’s programs in Chemistry Education and in Medicinal Chemistry.
