The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU)
invites applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice in
the School of Accountancy starting September 1, 2021. The vision of
the School of Accountancy is to be the School of choice for
superior students seeking to obtain the accounting knowledge,
ethical grounding, and professional, interpersonal and
intercultural skills necessary to succeed as leaders in their
chosen endeavors. DU is the oldest independent university in the
Rocky Mountain region, with approximately 11,500 students in
undergraduate and graduate programs. The Daniels College of
Business is the one of the largest colleges within the University,
with 1,800 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. We offer a
variety of degree programs, including two bachelors degrees, four
MBA degree programs, seven specialized masters degrees and an

to live. The School of Accountancy consists of 16 full-time faculty
members and approximately 220 students (first year through masters
level).
Position Summary
The Assistant Professor of the Practice in Accountancy is
expected to teach 7-8 courses during the fall, winter and spring
quarter in the areas of managerial or financial accounting,
auditing, analytics, or systems. Teaching responsibilities may
include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using
traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching
responsibilities may involve day, night, and weekend
classes. The Assistant Professor of the Practice will work
collaboratively with the Director of the School of Accountancy to
develop and deliver courses in alignment with college and school
teaching needs. The University of Denver follows the quarter
system, where classes meet for 10 weeks during the fall, winter,
and spring quarters followed by a final exam period.
At the Assistant Professor of the Practice rank, the appointment is
initially a one-year contract, renewable up to an additional two
years pending satisfactory performance. Additional contracts may be
awarded following a formal performance review. The position is
expected to begin on September 1, 2021.
Faculty members are expected to participate in school and college
faculty meetings and engage in service activities. Working
effectively and collegially with diverse groups of students,
faculty, staff, and/or community members is an integral part of the
job responsibility
Essential Functions
Teaching Description
Expected to deliver 7-8 courses throughout the fall, winter, and
spring quarters. There may also be opportunities to teach during
the 10-week summer quarter and/or online courses. Teachers are
expected to attend all scheduled class sessions and to be involved
in curriculum and pedagogy development, creating learning
objectives, syllabi creation and management, timely and consistent
grading, classroom management, student advising, student meetings
and mentoring, testing/quizzes, instruction assessment, and
professional development in educational topics. Teachers are also
expected to be responsive in student communications.
Research and Scholarship
As part of maintaining faculty qualifications for accreditation,
the Assistant Professor of the Practice is encouraged to engage in
professional and/or academic efforts to maintain currency and
represent the University and industry; for example, research
efforts, speaking engagements, professional memberships, etc.
Publications are highly valued. Our innovative environment nurtures
many forms of creativity and inquiry.
Service
Assistant Professors of the Practice help serve the college by
advising students, serving on committees, designing curricula,
participating in assurance of learning, engaging with students in
and outside of class, potentially coaching student competition
teams and advising student organizations, actively participating in
departmental faculty meetings and other activities that support the
School of Accountancy and the Daniels College of Business, and
assuming other duties as assigned and/or needed.
Assistant Professors of the Practice are also encouraged to be
professionally engaged through either industry or academic
affiliations related to the practice of accounting.

- Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives to effectively engage diverse populations and learning styles.

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting or a closely related field or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field with 10 or more years of executive experience.
- Demonstrated teaching, mentoring, or training excellence in an area of accounting or a closely related discipline.
- Ability to appropriately write, speak, and perform within a diverse, global business environment.
- Proven portfolio of business skills, developmental experiences, and successes.
Preferred Qualifications
- DBA or PhD in Business, Accounting, or a closely related field from an AACSB or EQUIS-accredited institution.
- CPA or other professional certification in accounting or a related area of expertise.
- Experience in team and experiential learning through class and work, and understand the transfer of classroom knowledge/skills to the workforce.
- Experience working with real businesses and integrating their problems into class scenarios or projects.
- Experience teaching at an AACSB accredited institution with excellent teaching evaluations.
- Recent relevant industry experience.
- Experience learning and teaching others to use new technology.
- Scholarly activities in the business community (e.g. consulting, presentations, publications, or conference proceedings).

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected
