The Sr. Learning Technologist collaborates with learning design and media team members to analyze student and faculty needs and integrate different technologies into courses. This role provides advanced support across Miami University’s varying learning technologies, including Canvas, Kaltura, Zoom, Google Suite, WordPress, Camtasia, Webex, and other available tools. The position will be responsible for training faculty, staff, and students in these applications, collaborating within and across departments, and will serve as the primary contact for resolving learning technology issues. The position will also address and resolve technology tickets from Faculty and Staff. In addition, the position will work with Miami Online Leadership to develop, design, and create web-based tools and other mediums.

Duties include and are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance of Canvas, Kaltura, WordPress, and other key platforms, including third-party tools that use LTI and API frameworks
  • At the request of leadership, develop, design, and create technology tools and web-based content mediums.
  • Take appropriate action to identify, investigate, and resolve user issues quickly and understand when best to escalate them due to their potential impact
  • Monitor reoccurring issues, system/data, or process gaps, and proactively identify potential ways to increase efficiency and improve user experience
  • Research, evaluate, and deploy new technologies in response to pedagogical needs
  • Plan, design, and deliver training for users who have varying levels of comfort and experience with technology
  • Serve as a liaison to other Miami departments on behalf of Miami Online in the adoption, deployment, and maintenance of learning technologies
  • Stay up-to-date on new learning technologies and updates to existing ones
  • Maintain both professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and pursuing related professional development opportunities.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, technical communication, information technology, organizational development; 5 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supporting technology, preferably in an educational setting; 5 years developing web-based content using HTML, CSS, etc.; Knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies; Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms.

Considerations may be given to candidates with a Master's degree in educational technology, instructional design, technical communication, information technology, organizational development, or a related field; 5+ years of experience as a Canvas and/or Kaltura administrator;  Experience collecting and reporting on key metrics related to learning technology services;  Knowledge of current instructional design frameworks and methods, as well as QM and OLC standards;  Expertise with creating responsive web pages that meet WCAG standards; Experience creating user documentation with multimedia tools, including video, interactive digital content, and text/graphics; Knowledge of user experience (UX) and/or learning experience (LX) design principles; Administrator experience with learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, Moodle, Sakai); Experience in technology-focused organizational development and leadership.
