The Department of Educational Leadership within the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW ) seeks an outstanding educator and scholar for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position (Assistant or Associate Professor, depending upon qualifications) for our graduate programs in Curriculum Studies in Equity and Curriculum and Instruction beginning fall semester, 2021.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:
• Developing and teaching campus-based and web-enhanced hybrid courses or fully online courses in dynamic graduate programs focused on equity, diverse knowledge systems, anti-racism, and transformative praxis.
• Assisting in the ongoing growth and development of the Curriculum and Instruction concentration of the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and the M.Ed. in Curriculum Studies for Equity.
• Advising students through completion of internships, culminating projects, and/or dissertations
• Maintaining an active scholarship agenda

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants for this position must hold a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction, Sociology of Education, or related field (e.g., Cultural Anthropology, Social Justice Education) from an accredited (U.S.) or certified (international) postsecondary institution.

ABD candidates may be considered, dependent upon projected date that the terminal degree will be conferred.

Demonstrated evidence of the ways research, teaching, and service contribute to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• If candidate is ABD, it is preferred that the terminal degree be in-hand by beginning date of appointment.
• Evidence of or potential for scholarship, research, teaching, and practice that advances access, equity, education quality and learning of historically marginalized and underrepresented youth and the leaders who serve them.
• Evidence of successful college-level teaching in campus-based and web-enhanced hybrid courses or fully online courses.
• Experience leading and conducting research through a culturally responsive lens related to or within diverse settings with individuals in our communities.
• Record of curriculum leadership cultivating place-based, asset/sustaining pedagogy approaches to learning and teaching in K12, informal learning, nonprofit, and/or research organization.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff, and student environment and commitment to do so as a faculty member at UNCW .
• Applicants for a senior appointment must have a substantial publication record, current research agenda, a successful record of teaching, and evidence of faculty leadership.

The Department of Educational Leadership offers four master’s-level graduate programs (Curriculum Studies in Equity, Evaluation and Organizational Learning, Higher Education, and School Administration) and three concentrations within the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, and Higher Education), as well an undergraduate minor in Leadership Studies, and four post-baccalaureate certificates (Coaching and Mentoring, College Teaching and Learning, Community College Leadership, and Evaluation).

The Watson College of Education ( WCE ) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs, a newly developed laboratory school, and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.
