Job Summary
Performs duties associated with livestock management in support of an animal science research program.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include cares for research herds which include feeding, watering, administering medication, transporting, calving, tagging, and weighing cattle, and similar tasks. Assist with marketing and purchasing of animals when needed. Collects research data on livestock to include documenting weight, heights, and other critical research factors. Cares for animals which includes feedings, watering, administering medication and transporting in compliance with regulations and research protocols and other defined criteria. Constructs, repairs, and maintains facilities which may include (but not limited to) machinery, barns, storage buildings, fences, corrals, equipment, processing facilities and facility grounds. May assist in soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, and harvesting crops used for research. May handle pesticides, herbicides, and hazardous chemicals on a team or alone. May be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to others. Supervisory responsibilities for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training and evaluating and making other employment decisions. May provide input to performance reviews of other employees.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and/or skill to perform a limited variety of simple, repetitive tasks related to livestock management and farming operations. Candidate needs to have knowledge of daily operations of a farm and animal maintenance care.

Minimum License and Certifications
Possession of a valid drivers license, ability to obtain a pesticide license may be required in specific positions and some positions may require a Class A Commercial Drivers License ( CDL ).
Desired Qualifications
Must have good time management skills as certain aspects of projects require work done in a timely manner. Must be able to work well with others, team player. This position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stopping, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands and lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and may be up to 100 pounds occasionally.
