Position Overview
The University of Kansas School of Music seeks to fill a full-time, academic year (nine month), tenure track artist to teach Voice in an Assistant Professor capacity to begin on August 18, 2021. The successful candidate will be a soprano, mezzo-soprano, or treble voice and s urrounded by colleagues who share your passion for artistic expression and educating students, creating professional opportunities in the field and eager to create new ways for engagement in learning, research and service. The School of Music is especially interested in hiring faculty members who can contribute to the climate of diversity in the School including a diversity of scholarly artistic approaches. In a continuing effort to enrich its academic environment and provide equal educational and employment opportunities, the university actively encourages applications from member of underrepresented groups in higher education.
The University of Kansas School of Music is a comprehensive university music school offering professional training in a wide array of specializations through baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree programs. A charter member of the National Association of Schools of Music (1928), KU is the only institution authorized by the Kansas Board of Regents to grant doctoral degrees in music. KU is a Carnegie Research-Extensive Institution with a student body of over 28,000 students representing every state and more than 113 foreign countries. Applicants are preferred to possess a doctoral degree in music or related field. Job Description
- Teach applied voice lessons (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses; maintain a strong voice studio; work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students; and responsible in supervising/mentoring teaching assistants.
- Engage in service related activities in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees.
- Establish a research/creative agenda pursuant of artistic growth and an expanding reputation of excellence; perform with other faculty as a member of the Kansas Virtuosi; participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.
