Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Department of Physical Therapy has an exciting opportunity for a Unity game engine programmer in the Motor Control Laboratory ( MCL ) of Dr. James Thomas, College of Health Professions. The MCL is a state-of-the-art lab and our team consists of three post-doctoral fellows, a study coordinator, and PhD students as well as Kinesiology interns (movr.vcu.edu). The primary responsibility of this position will be to maintain current virtual reality (VR) game suites developed by the MCL as well as develop innovative VR tools for rehabilitation. VR development is done under the direct supervision of Dr. Thomas with input from the MCL team. The successful candidate will be encouraged to fully engage in development of next-generation VR applications.

Minimum Hiring Standards

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

• At least 3 years’ experience working with the Unity game engine

• Must be proficient in C# programming language as well as data communication pipelines

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Hiring Standards

• A recent doctoral degree in kinesiology/exercise science, biomechanics, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline with a special interest in spine biomechanics and/or neuromuscular physiology or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

• Experience with Vicon Tracker and Pegasus software, as well as 2-year experience using Vicon motion capture systems controlled with MotionMonitor software

• Experience with virtual reality development
