University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences seeks a dynamic, high-performing executive to serve as its inaugural Assistant Vice Chancellor and Deputy Chief Information Officer (AVC/D-CIO). This is a unique opportunity to lead IT strategy and operations at a premier health sciences center that, for more than a century, has been a destination of distinction in health education and research. The new AVC/D-CIO will work collaboratively with the health sciences leadership team in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh Information Technology organization to enable the "One IT" initiative, whose goal is to significantly enhance and better coordinate IT service delivery across the enterprise.

As one of the nation’s distinguished, comprehensive universities, the resources of University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) constitute an invaluable asset for the intellectual, economic, and social enrichment of Pennsylvania, while the international prestige of the institution enhances the image of Pennsylvania throughout the world. Pitt is a member of the Association of American Universities, an organization of 62 leading doctorate-granting research institutions in the United States and Canada. The University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences combine to make Pitt a major center for health sciences education and biomedical research.

The AVC/D-CIO will report to the Senior Vice Chancellor for the Health Sciences/Dean of the School of Medicine (SVCHS) for all strategic, financial, and project related activities.  The position will also report to the Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer (VC/CIO) for technology and cybersecurity related matters. As a key leadership position, the AVC/D-CIO will create the Health Sciences IT strategy and plan to develop a robust technology organization and platform that is organized, integrated and standardized to effectively support education, research and clinical activities. This role will enable delivery of IT services that meet the unique goals of the Schools of the Health Sciences and further the vision of "One IT" to simplify the environment and enhance services overall. The extraordinary diversity of Pitt's academic and research mission makes this role both challenging and instrumental to the institution's continued success as a major center for health sciences education and research.

The AVC/D-CIO will be a driven, innovative executive with demonstrated success developing and leading IT in an academic and research organization, preferably a health sciences center. The ideal candidate will be a high functioning leader with strong communication skills who can create a future-facing technology environment that effectively supports the mission and goals of University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences. The AVC/D-CIO will be a knowledgeable leader, with technical and business acumen, and a fundamental understanding of IT process improvement. She/he will be a collaborative partner with high emotional intelligence who can engage others and build positive relationships. Key skill sets necessary to be successful in this role include an ability to engage stakeholders as a strategic partner; establish relationships with leaders and constituents across the institution; and a demonstrated ability to enhance overall IT service delivery as it relates to governance, simplification, efficiency, effectiveness and security.

All applications including cover letter and resume, expressions of interest and nominations will be handled with the utmost professional courtesy and confidentiality.
