Marketing Content Specialist

General Summary/Purpose

The Marketing Content Specialist is responsible for creating impactful content directed to prospects, applicants and admitted students for all degree programs as well as prospects and registrants for Executive Education programs at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. This role is an integral member of Carey’s Marketing and Communications team and will report to the Creative Director. S/he will assist in the development and execution of content for Admissions and Executive Education.

The Marketing Content Specialist is an expert storyteller who can showcase the value of our programs and courses in a compelling audience-relevant way. They are also a team player who can give and receive constructive feedback. The Marketing Content Specialist works in an environment with tight deadlines and excels at balancing multiple projects at once. This personwill be an effective writer, creative and strategic thinker andmust be able to work cross-functionally and independently.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Writing and editing
  • Generate, nurture and convert prospective students into applicants and enrolled students for Admissions and convert prospects into registrations for Executive Education through informative and engaging content.
  • Create, maintain and optimize marketing content for emails throughout the recruitment cycle as well as collateral, possible blog posts, SMS communications and other possible messaging to support overarching campaigns and strategies.
  • Create, maintain and update the communications plans that encompass all relevant audiences for Admissions (prospective students, applicants, and admitted students) and for Executive Education (prospects, registrants, and alumni).
  • Write website content that will address the needs of our target audiences and build support for our SEO rankings and relevance in coordinatation with the current Web Strategy & Analytics Manager and the current Content Strategist.
  • Ensure writing is based on best practices and trends in digital and social media,and multimedia content as it relates to higher education and the target demographics.
  • Execute against the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Brand Standards to align the school’s marketing messaging to our brand tone and voice.
  • Ensure all marketing efforts comply with University Branding Guidelines and Use of Name Guidelines.
  • Collaboration
  • Work closely with cross functional team members to support enrollment goals and Carey’s strategic priorities.
  • Serves as a collaborative member of the Marketing and Communications team, assisting with other marketing-related duties as assigned and as time permits.
  • Project Management
  • Effectively tracks and manages projects using project management software.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in journalism, marketing, writing or other related field required.
    • Two years related experience required.
    • Advanced degree may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    * JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office necessary.
    • Knowledge of AP Style and ability to learn and uphold school style guide.
    • Must maintain a professional working relationship with faculty, students and staff.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Self-directed and self-motivated.
    • Ability to meet tight deadlines.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3-4 years of related experience in higher education marketing, admissions, or sales.
    • Experience with the Technolutions Slate CRM platform a plus.

    Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated excellent writing skills and experience crafting compelling copy for a diverse range of audiences using multimedia platforms.
    • Keen attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent time-management skills, along with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple projects.
    • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • First-hand knowledge of regional and national print, broadcast and electronic media outlets, and social networking, including web-based and online media/information sites.
    • Understanding of user experience and an understanding of search engine optimization.
    • Adapts to workload and working conditions while maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
