Job Summary

The Department of Teaching, Leadership, and Counseling in Columbus State University’s College of Education and Health Professions invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Middle Grades Education.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: coordinating the undergraduate and graduate programs in Middle Grades Education; effective teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels (face-to-face, blended, and fully online); designing, implementing, and assessing Middle Grades Education programs of study; supervising student teachers, interns, and practicum students; engaging in research and scholarly activities, to include mentoring doctoral students; serving on and chairing doctoral dissertation committees; performing service to the program, department, college, and university; working closely with faculty in the Middle and Secondary Grades education programs as well as in the College of Letters and Sciences; and participating actively in Middle and Secondary Grades Education professional development and leadership activities.

The successful candidate will perform service and administrative tasks necessary to enhance program, department, college, and university goals and objectives; foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration; work in continuous improvement of educator preparation and educational research; demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and community of practice; and engage in practices that support the University’s focus on student engagement and active learning.

The selected candidate will be a community role model who fosters an environment of professionalism, scholarship, continuous improvement in Middle Grades Education program design and delivery, and collaboration with the university faculty and public-school personnel. Additionally, the candidate will be a strong advocate for Middle Grades Education within the university and community at large. The Teacher Education, Leadership, and Counseling programs at Columbus State University prepare candidates to be student-centered teachers who promote engagement and success for all learners.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Middle GradesEducation or a related field from a regionally accredited institution; experience and knowledge in education as a middle grades teacher (preferably in U.S. public schools), curriculum director, or administrator; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; a record of successful research and publication or strong evidence of potential; a demonstrated record of membership and participation in relevant professional organizations; a record of service and involvement in the profession; and the ability to use technology for synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to bring innovative strategies to our teacher education program; have evidence of successful teaching at the college level in both traditional and online environments; have middle grades certification and teaching experience in U.S. public schools; have evidence of collaborating with middle schools/partners in Professional Development Schools; and have knowledge and experience with coordinating middle grades education programs and accreditation.
