Job Description:

The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Geography beginning Fall 2021. The professional obligation is for a ten-month academic year. Expectations include teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development.

The Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability has a strong and growing undergraduate geography program and a new and growing undergraduate environmental sustainability program. The Department is part of the School of Sciences, which consists of 10 academic departments and 2,400 students majoring in 22 programs. Duties include but are not limited to: teaching courses in areas such as economic geography, also introductory and upper level geography courses, and other courses to meet department needs; contributing to both the geography and environmental sustainability programs; mentoring students; student advising; and actively participating in departmental and university life.


Required Qualifications: PhD in geography or a closely related discipline (ABD considered; doctorate required at time of first renewal notification); ability to teach courses listed in duties above; excellent communication skills.

Preferred: demonstrated ability to teach economic geography, economics of sustainability, upper level geography courses in the candidate's area of specialty, as well as areas such as sustainable urban planning, GIS, remote sensing, and/or UAV technologies, and/or any other courses which are supportive of the environmental sustainability program; a demonstrated interest in integrating experiential learning into coursework; college-level teaching experience; experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
