The College of Education at Slippery Rock University is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure track position as an Early Childhood Generalist in the Elementary/Early Childhood Education Department beginning Fall 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Teach undergraduate students within the ELEC PK-4 Program, through a lens of critical pedagogy.
Supervise teacher candidates in on-site field work or student teaching.
Provide academic advisement to undergraduate students.
Teach graduate-level courses in early childhood education.
Establish positive and collaborative relationships with schools and early childhood programs, facilitating community engagement opportunities between students and schools.
Participate in service activities within the department, college, university, and community.
Maintain an exemplary record of scholarly growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Evidence of doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Instructional/Educational Leadership, or related field. ABD considered if doctorate is completed by August 2021.
  • Evidence of a minimum of 3 years teaching experience from birth to grade 6.
  • Evidence of a demonstrated commitment to critical pedagogy and the education of BIPOC students.
  • Evidence of a successful series of interviews and a teaching demonstration (virtually due to COVID-19). Letters of reference may be required as part of the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of teaching experience from birth to grade 6 in Title 1, ethnically diverse, and/or linguistically diverse contexts.
  • Evidence of experience in undergraduate and graduate course design and teaching.
  • Evidence of educational research, reflective of an awareness and understanding of current best practice in early childhood education and critical pedagogy.
  • Evidence of experience utilizing educational technology in the teaching-learning process.
  • Evidence of experience teaching students within hybrid or online courses.
  • Evidence of community engagement experience and the skills necessary to establish collaborative relationships with community or school-based practitioners in BIPOC early childhood settings.
