Assistant or Associate Professor Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education Position School of U
Metropolitan State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, is seeking to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education. This is a full-time time probationary (tenure track) position within the The School of Urban Education and is expected to start August 16, 2021.

Metropolitan State University has responded to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic by offering nearly all of its courses in a fully online format for the 2020-2021 academic year, limiting any in-person instruction to courses for which in-person learning is essential for students to achieve the learning outcomes. In addition, the majority of employees are working remotely, taking advantage of technological tools to engage students and complete their work. The search for this position will be conducted using web conferencing technology.

Faculty members are expected to:
- Demonstrate ability to teach urban education early childhood and/or elementary courses effectively [at both the undergraduate and graduate level]
- Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement
- Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study
- Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance and engage in service to the university and community
- Demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts and sciences context and possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
- Teach education methods and content courses for early childhood and/or elementary education effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate level using a culturally responsive lens.
- Teach a variety of education course that contribute to education licensure programs through the School of Urban Education.
- Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement that promotes urban education.
- Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field of urban early childhood and elementary education.
- Actively engaging in activities that serve a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts and sciences context.
- Work effectively with a wide range of diverse individuals across the university to carry out the mission and vision of Metropolitan State University and the School of Urban Education.
- Supervise Master’s degree candidate’s thesis or capstone projects.
- Collaborate on new and existing program development, implementation, and assessment with colleagues in the School of Urban Education.
- Coordinate one or more concentrations offered in the School of Urban Education.
- Engage in collaborations that promote and develop alliances with urban educators, schools and community partners that benefit the mission and vision of the School of Urban Education.
- Contribute to state and national level policy and procedures development for Early Childhood Education.
- D. or Ed.D. in Early Childhood (Birth to Grade 3) w/Urban
- Or ABD in Early Childhood (Birth to Grade 3) w/ Urban Education emphasis (with verification degree completion prior to the start for the position)
- 3 years of consecutive public-school teaching experience in an ethnically diverse urban early childhood school setting as a licensed teacher.
- Current or recent license in Early Childhood education within the last 5 years.
- Ability to teach a variety of urban education courses effectively across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Early Childhood State level standards and policies.
- Demonstrated experience in using urban early childhood pedagogy.
- An emerging record of higher education teaching, research and scholarship focused on early childhood/elementary education tied to the urban education setting.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate urban education courses effectively and to meet state licensure standards.
- Evidence of cross-cultural human relations skills including demonstrated evidence of effectively collaborating within culturally, linguistically, socio-economic diverse urban settings; such as classrooms, departments/offices, schools and communities.
- Experience with inter-agency and interdisciplinary partnerships, especially for licensing.
- 5 years of consecutive teaching experience in an urban teacher education preparation program.
- Experience advising graduate students, including thesis advising.
- Leadership experience and a demonstrated willingness to take on roles within the School of Urban Education to promote, build and create new programing for Early Childhood Education.
- Experience meeting teaching licensure standards, and state program and/or unit approval/accreditation requirements.
- Experience providing professional development to licensed teachers on early childhood, elementary, and/or urban education topics.
- Teaching experience using multiple delivery methods (e.g., traditional face-to-face, online, and hybrid).
- Experience in urban teaching preparation field placements.
- Experience writing/developing curriculum, programs, and developing assessment plans in accordance with Federal Law and state requirements for special education licensure.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
