Norfolk State University provides leadership and support for academic advising services and other opportunities that facilitate student’s progress toward achieving their education goals. To provide helpful and timely academic advising and coaching services and other opportunities that facilitate students’ progress toward achieving their education goals. As such, the department invites applications for the Director of Academic Advising.
The incumbent duties and responsibilities include:
1. Assists staff in obtaining the necessary knowledge, skills
and abilities to accomplish goals.
2. Assisting with data collection, analysis and reporting,
especially for assessment and quality assurance.
3. Maintaining partnerships with academic and non-academic units
across campus
Participating in retention initiatives, including programs anchored
in other units.
4. Leading development of and overseeing implementation of
professional development opportunities for all advisors.
5. Helping students develop educational plans that meet their
academic goals and inspiring adherence.
6. Registering students for classes, preparing them to register
themselves or supporting their self-registration.
7. Ensuring students’ compliance with university policies regarding
academic success and minimum progress,
e.g., probation and PLSSSC’s Academic Recovery Program
Participating in the Academic Recovery Program.
