The Department of Communication and Theatre at Auburn University at Montgomery seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Strategic Communication beginning Fall 2021. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Communication. A.B.D. candidates are eligible, but all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2021.

Candidates must show evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and an established research program or ability to develop one, as well as a commitment to service. Courses may include strategic communication, crisis communication, media planning, media analytics, social media, advertising media, advertising writing, strategic campaigns, political communication, organizational communication, and research methods.

The Department of Communication and Theatre comprises 9 full-time faculty and is one of the larger departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. AUM serves approximately 5,000 students and provides a supportive and safe environment for teaching and research. Our student body is diverse, and the average class size is 20 students.

AUM has an official 4/3 teaching load. Faculty with ongoing scholarship and publication usually receive a course release for a normal 3/3 load. Internal funding and professional improvement leave to support scholarship are available.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication on or before August 1, 2021; evidence of potential excellence in teaching including, but not limited to, knowledge of discipline, instructional techniques and strategies, and pedagogical theory; willingness and capacity to teach in-person, hi-flex/hybrid, and online; and evidence of a research program in communication or the ability to develop one.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge: strategic communication theories, concepts, and practices.
• Knowledge: teaching through apt pedagogy, clear delivery, and content mastery.
• Knowledge: instruction (in-person, hi-flex/hybrid, online), curriculum development, and course assessment.
• Skills: interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Skills: content creation, social media, SEO, and digital analytics.
• Abilities: provide departmental, college, university, and community/professional service.
