LBCC Bilingual Pay Incentive Administrative Policy Position Title: Health Occupations Specialist,Skills Lab Division/Department: Associate Degree Nursing Location Healthcare Occupations Center, Lebanon, OR Job Summary:
Sets up nursing skills labs, cleans up after labs for faculty, provides hands-on demonstrations, assists students with questions during practice, provides support to the Skills Lab faculty, assists with skills checkoffs, may provide assigned skill remediation, and may substitutes for clinical faculty. Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, current and unencumbered Nursing license from the State of Oregon, and a minimum of three years full-time nursing experience (in a medical lab, outpatient clinic and/or acute-care setting).

Knowledge and Skills: Must have a working knowledge of instructional techniques and skills sufficient to tutor students on an informal level. Considerable technical knowledge in nursing skills is required. Requires knowledge of safety practices, proper equipment use and practices in nursing. Strong communication skills are required in order to interact with and assist nursing students.

Abilities: Ability to set up and maintain nursing skills equipment in a safe, clean and functional manner is required. Requires the ability to set up nursing student projects which meet the instructional goals of faculty. Must be able to mentor and tutor nursing students in the use of nursing equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment. Must be able to communicate in both formal and informal setting with students and staff. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Must be able to use current technologies required to provide optimal simulated clinical experience.

Licenses and Certificates: Must have a current and unencumbered Registered Nurse license/certificate from the State of Oregon. Preferred Qualifications: Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate nursing skills lab equipment and communicate effectively with staff and students. Ninety percent of the time duties require standing and about 50 percent of the time requires some kneeling, stooping or crouching, plus lifting light to medium weight (10 to 50 pounds) equipment.

Work is normally performed indoors with potential exposure to health or safety hazards of a learning environment of nursing students. Some tasks require special care due to hazards and contaminates (blood borne pathogens). Considerable time may be spent working on a computer. Essential Duties:
Assists instructors in the development of skills, lab curriculum, and techniques. Provides demonstrations, monitors and assists students practicing a wide variety of nursing skills. Reviews current standards of practice, consults with faculty on current theory and skills criteria.

Provides nursing skills demonstrations according to college written skills criteria and with the guidance of nursing faculty.

Provides skills checkoffs for students as needed.

Provides individual nursing skills tutoring. Reviews with nursing student’s current theory and skills criteria to promote critical thinking. Assists students and answers their questions as they practice what they have learned.

Prepares lab demonstrations by setting up and assembling all materials and equipment needed for labs. Cleans up after lab and puts items away. Maintains a clean, safe and orderly skills lab with all valuable and/or dangerous equipment placed in locked areas when not in use.

Makes sure all equipment is on hand for instruction, to include making sure all equipment works, or is repaired. Develops and maintains an equipment and supply storage system for the department. Makes sure all supplies are in order and available.

Substitutes for clinical instructors on an as needed basis.
