The Nonprofit Leadership Studies Program (NLS) is dedicated to strengthening the capacity of Murray State University (MSU) graduates to exert positive impacts on the world through personal and professional commitments. The program envisions building communities that acknowledge and respect human difference; promote engaged responsible citizenship in a democratic society; and enhance international and global understanding. The NLS Program provides the knowledge and experience needed to be effective leaders, managers, and collaborative partners on behalf of the public good.

The NLS Program is seeking leadership that will ensure strengthened alignment with the needs of civil society and the nonprofit sector, supported through its strategic interconnections with the business and government sectors. Institutional and community support provide an opportunity for the Program Director to innovate, build, and grow all aspects of the NLS Program. Service learning teaching methodology is integrated throughout the NLS Program curriculum to ensure opportunities for students to apply their classroom knowledge to the community at-large. Every course is built around an opportunity to apply the lessons learned in a real-world context through long-standing collaboration with nonprofit organizations. Area nonprofit leaders are key partners in mentoring, guiding, and championing student development and career advancement. Nonprofit leaders are essential to the success of the NLS Program. The NLS Program is a member of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council, aligned with its guiding standards.

The NLS Program is committed to teaching, research, and service excellence and includes a University Studies core course in the Social and Self-Awareness, Responsible Citizenship and Social Services thematic area; an undergraduate major and minor; and a graduate certification program, the courses of which are accepted by graduate programs across campus, including curricular concentrations in the Masters in Human Development and Leadership and the Masters in Public Administration, along with a close partnership with the Masters in Organizational Communication. In addition, there is a long history of workshops and consultancies in support of nonprofit organizations across the region, supported by a strong partnership with the Community Foundation of West Kentucky.

Full-time, tenure-track assistant professor/program director position to begin July 2021.

Responsibilities:
The faculty member is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses across the curriculum, both in the classroom and through online technology; pursue an active research agenda; engage related professional associations; provide service to the university and community; and recruit and academically advise students. As Program Director, the faculty member will ensure that the curriculum aligns with national standards in support of aspirations for accreditation. A key role of the Program Director is to facilitate planning and administration in partnership with the NLS faculty. Program development and management responsibilities are coordinated with the Department Chair with a commitment to quality integration across all of its programs of study. Working with university and community partners, the Program Director provides leadership that advances the NLS Program’s vision and goals.

Required Qualifications:
Doctorate in Nonprofit/Philanthropic Leadership and Management or a closely related discipline. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service that directly aligns with and contributes to nonprofit/philanthropic leadership education and professional practice in the nonprofit sector.

Preferred Qualifications:  
Preference will be given to candidates with education and experience in nonprofit organization leadership and management, including financial resource development and governance, and policy analysis. Experience working in cross-sector partnerships and collaborations will be viewed as bringing important expertise to the position. Experience with service learning teaching methods is desirable.
