Assistant Professor – Child and Family Development (Area of Child Development)

 

The Department of Childhood Education and Family Studies, in the College of Education, at Missouri State University, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Child and Family Development in the area of Child Development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as a research advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research that is aligned with the mission of the University.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses with a primary focus on child development, pursue a research agenda, participate in service at the university-, college-, department-, professional-, and community levels; and, to contribute to the public affairs mission of the university. Teaching responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate courses in child development  and other courses in child and family development as the department requires. Teaching will include in person and online courses. An active research agenda in the candidate’s area of interest related to child development and mentoring of graduate student research are expected. Supervision of student internships in community settings may also be required.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

A doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies or a closely related field (ABD considered, with expected completion by start date). Evidence of research and scholarship accomplishments (e.g., presentations and publications) in areas related to child and family development. Experience teaching at the higher level (e.g., college/university level teaching). Evidence of experience engaging with diverse groups of children/families in various settings (e.g., community-based partnerships, university/home/school collaborations, special needs supportive learning initiatives, and culturally responsive activities). Either experience with or willingness to engage in- and/or background and expertise in any of the following: Anti-oppressive education/practices, curriculum development, and integrated utilization of the trilogy of scholarship (e.g., teaching, research, and service). The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
