Brief Summary of Work for this Position

This position serves as the lead instructor for preK-12 engineering outreach programs for the MarineQuest program. This position: develops and implements new activities and lessons for curriculum focused on coastal engineering; infuses relevant computer programming into curriculum; trains and oversees student instructors and volunteers; plans program logistics; responsible for equipment storage/ classroom upkeep/ mobile makerspace maintenance; collects evaluation data.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Bachelors degree in engineering or STEM related field

Experience in hands-on engineering activities including computer programming instruction

Experience working with children in informal or formal academic setting

Must understand the philosophy of cooperative learning and implementation of the engineering design cycle

Must be able to utilize robotics programming software, 3D printer design software, computer programming software and other programs to be determined by growth of programs and Maker Space

Must be able to clearly communicate by phone, in person and using email with customers to explain programs

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Background in Coastal Engineering, Marine Technology or other STEM related field or subject area with hands-on experience in engineering related activities such as Sea Perch and Science Olympiad competitions, robotics, computer programming, or STEM teaching

Experience working with children in an informal (afterschool, camps) or formal academic setting

Good oral communication skills and written skills to develop and deliver programming, and to provide customer service

Good equipment management skills

Required Certifications or licensure

This position will be required to drive a mobile makerspace transit van, 12 passenger van, or 14 passenger mini-bus on occasion.
