This is an open-rank, tenure-track faculty search. The University of Houston College of Optometry is seeking outstanding clinician-scientist faculty members to join the Clinical Sciences Department with interests and expertise that may include, but are not limited to, the following clinical practice and translational research priorities:

  • Pediatric visual disorders; sensory and perceptual disorders related to visual development; anomalies of binocular vision in children and adults
  • Treatment and prevention of refractive errors
  • Ocular and systemic diseases affecting the anterior and posterior segment of the eye
  • Neurological and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Other conditions of public health importance


Research programs may include any stage of translational research: from benchtop exploration of disease mechanisms, to public health policy. Preference will be given for patient-based translational research involving health outcomes, care access, care delivery models, health disparities, or health policy research. There is an interest in approaches that involve applied data sciences, clinical informatics, and telehealth applications.

Competitive applicants will have terminal degrees (e.g. O.D., Ph.D.) that enable clinical practice and extramurally funded research. Candidates are expected to provide clinical education and patient care and must be eligible for optometric licensure in the state of Texas. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate leadership in teaching, clinical practice, and scholarship related to patient care, clinical outcomes, community/ public health, clinical education, or other areas of applied clinical sciences. Qualifications :

The successful applicant must have an O.D. degree and should have a terminal research degree; Ph.D. is preferred. Applicants should have experience with clinical teaching, mentoring, and providing patient care.
