Hong Kong Baptist University

Chair Professor/Professor of Practice/Professor/Associate
Professor (at least 4 posts)
(PR0409/19-20)
Overview
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), ranked 264 globally in the QS
World University Rankings (QSWUR2021) and top 75 in THE Asia
University Rankings (2020), has defined six interdisciplinary
research laboratories to enable academics from different
backgrounds to work together on common sets of problems and to
contribute to the positioning of this dynamic and globally oriented
University as a research-led liberal arts institution of worldwide
significance.
Details of the six interdisciplinary research labs can be found on
the HKBU Research website at:
https://research.hkbu.edu.hk/organisational-structure/interdisciplinary-research-labs
HKBU has built the “Data Economy Lab” in support of the
University’s “AI and Data Analytics” research cluster. We are
interested in the development of the digital economy, the emergence
of data as a resource, and related questions of ownership, privacy
and ethical behaviour.
Details of the posts
We are recruiting at least four first-class researchers in the
emerging area of the “Data Economy”. Expertise and research
interests in one or more of the following may be an
advantage:
1. Emerging business models for the digital
economy, such as zero marginal cost capitalism
2. Fintech, including financial analytics and the
Blockchain in the decentralized economy
3. AI in business ethics and society
4. Economic principles of digital platform
design
5. Integration of machine learning and big data
in causal inference
6. Data-driven and algorithmic
communication
We are open as to the disciplinary background. Business
scholars, economists, computer scientists, mathematicians, social
scientists, geographers, applied ethicists, media/communication
scholars and others who are keen to contribute to the development
of the interdisciplinary Data Economy Laboratory are encouraged to
apply. Successful applicants are likely to be established
researchers, with an international reputation in their field,
although outstanding scholars at all levels will be
considered.
Colleagues recruited will have access to seed money and appropriate
research facilities/support, as well as a generous array of
competitive research funding from Hong Kong’s Research Grants
Council, the Innovation and Technology Commission, and other
external sources.
Interested candidates should have relevant expertise, a proven
research record, and the readiness to contribute to an
interdisciplinary research team. They should be talented,
motivated and committed to the Lab to make it a sustainable
research hub.
Depending on the rank, appointments may be made either with tenured
status or on tenure track with an initial contract of three
years. Re-appointments thereafter will be subject to mutual
agreement and availability of funding. Rank and salary will
be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
