One-Year Visiting Position in the Religions of China

Reed College seeks applications for a one-year visiting position in the religions of China for the 2021-22 academic year, to commence August 2021. Although the subfield within is open, expertise in non-Abrahamic Chinese religions is desired, as is facility with the religious cultures of the Han and Song dynasties. Appointments are normally made at the assistant professor level. We seek outstanding, critically self-reflective candidates, and we look for experience in teaching as well as the ability to advise student research projects on a wide range of topics in religious studies.

Reed College is a selective liberal arts institution with a commitment to high standards of scholarship and teaching excellence in a seminar setting. The appointee will teach five one-semester courses over the academic year. These will include at least one 100-level introduction to the religions of China and one section of the team-taught yearlong Chinese humanities program devoted to the Han and Song dynasties[(https://www.reed.edu/humanities/hum231-232/index.html)]. The position also involves supervising yearlong senior thesis projects.

While a PhD is preferred, candidates who are ABD in Religion will also be considered for appointment.
