Overview

Employment Status: Full-time, Probationary, "Exempt" position.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required.

    Job Summary
    Under general supervision of Associate Director of Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, the Financial Aid Advisor / Direct Loan Administrator is responsible for administration and coordination of a Federal, State, or Institutional aid program to ensure compliance in all areas of the program administration. This position is responsible for highly complex financial aid applicant cases and use of appropriate counseling techniques to service the financial aid applicants, recipients, parents, and campus community in which independent and critical thinking skills may be used. This position will initiate and modify program policies and procedures as needed and/or required by federal and/or state regulations. Ensure processing of assigned programs are reconciled between appropriate offices and agencies within established guidelines. Consult with management and other professional level staff regarding interpretation of regulations and procedures. Present and/or train staff, student assistants and other appropriate campus constituents on program rules and information including updates with policies and procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and Experience
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Years of experience may be supplemented to meet this requirement.
  • Experience: Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. (A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.)education and experience requirements and preferences.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Minimum of three years financial aid experience particularly with the administration of the Direct Loan program, knowledge of the rules and regulations that govern the Direct Loan program, experience working in a fast-paced office environment, ability to interpret and apply federal, state, institutional regulations and policies to complex cases, strong analytical skills, ability to work independently with minimal direction in drafting and developing policy and procedures where limited guidance and precedent exists.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations that govern the processing and awarding of financial aid.
    • General knowledge of individual and group counseling techniques.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
