The School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications and nominations for a full-time tenure-track and/or tenured faculty position to begin Fall 2021 within the area of aerospace engineering. Research areas such as high-temperature ceramics, protective coatings and claddings, high temperature oxidation/corrosion, advanced joining in microgravity, and the design of multi-material components for hypersonic aerospace are of specific interest. Faculty collaboration opportunities include but are not limited to ONAMI (Oregon Nanoscience and MicrotechnologiesInstitute), ATAMI (Advanced Technologies and Manufacturing Institute), OMI (Oregon Metals Initiative), and the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC).

Candidates should hold a doctorate in a relevant field by the start date of employment, and havea demonstrated record of scholarship. The school seeks to attract exceptional candidates with research interests and expertise in advanced manufacturing, design, or material science with anemphasis in aerospace systems.

Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant Professor rank, but candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate new externally funded research as well as expand, complement, and collaborate with existing research programs in the School, College of Engineering, and beyond. The successful candidate will conduct original research, build relationships with industry partners, advise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and perform service at the School, College, and University levels.

Oregon State is located in Corvallis, at the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Surrounded by forests and mountains, Corvallis combines the amenities of a college town with ample opportunity for outdoor recreation and fresh local food. Portland, the Cascade mountain range, and the Oregon Coast are all within easy reach. The College of Engineering is the largest college, with approximately 9,000 students. The School of MIME offers undergraduate degree programs in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, and energy systems engineering and graduate programs in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials science, and robotics. As leaders in emerging interdisciplinary research areas, our faculty collectively garner more than $12 million annually in research funding and are making an impact on the profession.
