The Department of Electro-Optics and Photonics (EOP) in the School of Engineering at the University of Dayton (UD) seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Founded in 1983, EOP is an academic department in the School of Engineering offering MS and PhD degrees. It is grouped and ranked within the top 10% of ECE departments in the research category by the National Research Council. EOP collaborates extensively with Physics and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Its proximity to the Air Force Research Labs at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base provides an excellent opportunity for research collaboration and funding. EOP has unique research facilities such as the Lidar and Optical Communications Institute (LOCI), dedicated laser range halls, Intelligent Optics Lab (IOL) with a 7 km cross-town atmospheric testbed, Holography and Metamaterials (HaM) Lab, Nanofab and Optical Thin Films Lab and Nano Electro-Optics Laboratories (NEOL). UD is the lead institution on a multi-university research initiative (MURI) on atmospheric optics, and EOP has successfully supported small businesses. EOP also has strong joint international programs with leading universities and research institutions in optics and photonics. Areas of specializations include LIDAR and laser additive manufacturing, atmospheric and adaptive optics, nanophotonics, nanofabrication, holography and 3D imaging, fiber optics and beam control.

The successful candidate is expected to teach EOP and related courses, develop and maintain high-quality, externally funded research that enhances the department’s profile, and mentor MS and PhD graduate students.  This position will start on August 16, 2021.
