The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, for academic year 2021-22, with a specialty in the literatures of either Africa, South Asia, the Pacific, or the Caribbean. Strengths in postcolonial and decolonial studies; indigenous studies; critical refugee studies; migration studies; environmental justice; slavery studies; the intimacies of race, gender, and sexuality; or new logics of global connection, interchange, and solidarity are particularly welcome. The successful candidate will join an intellectual community with existing strengths in South Asian, Asian American, Latinx, African American, and Caribbean literatures – as well as interdisciplinary foci in textual studies and the digital humanities, gender and queer theory, modernism/modernity, and critical race theory – and a university that has made social justice central to its vision. The position involves teaching undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses in our MA and PhD programs. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a strong program of scholarship, and to engage in service at the department level or above.

The candidate will have a PhD in English or a closely related field, or have a plan in place to defend by May 2021. Candidates for the position must demonstrate clear potential for excellence in research and teaching and must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education.
