Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the HVAC Shop Supervisor, the incumbent of this position performs journey level CAD design, CNC programming and machine work to manufacture essential components and research instruments for facilities operations and academic support. Implements the precision machining and computer aided design services of Facilities Machine Shop. Collaborates with faculty, staff and students, to determine project scope, feasibility, and expected outcomes.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.


Minimum Qualifications:
- AAS Degree in Manufacturing Technology or similar Machining degree and/or Certificate of completion from a technical Institute, totaling two (2) years.

- Five (5) years of journey-level on the job experience in operating both manual and CNC machine tools.

- Education, training and experience have included: experience with working from mechanical drawings and blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, machine sequence, and set up of work.

- Experience selecting and setting up appropriate cutting tools for various alloys and determining correct feeds and speeds to produce the highest quality finish required for the application.

- Experience with using 3D computer software to design and model parts and components, importing computer files and drawings into computer, and then converting drawings to CNC programed code.

- Experience and proficiency with programming and editing in G and M codes for operating CNC machine tools.

- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.


Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience rigging loads for overhead crane work and operation forklifts.

- Experience building pumps, blowers, motors, compressors, vacuum pumps and other various mechanical system components.

- Experience setting up and fabrication precision instruments for research support.

- Skills in welding, fabricating, soldering and brazing.

- Knowledge of sheet metal, layout, bending, cutting and forming.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Must be able to perform the physical activities and strenuous work associated with Machinist and CNC programming duties such as standing for long periods of time, walking on concrete floor, sitting in computer chairs for extended period of time, and continuous computer use.

- Must be able to perform the physical activities and strenuous work associated with fabrication and maintenance duties such as bending, stooping, and crawling. Working in high or confined spaces.

- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move objects weighing up to 80 pounds.

- Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.

- Working in Shop environment.
