The Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University seeks applicants for the Eugene C. Patterson Professor of the Practice of Journalism and Public Policy, an endowed chair in the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy.

We seek a renowned media practitioner (e.g. editor, producer, reporter, media organization leader) whose work demonstrates commitment to an independent, high-integrity, and inclusive news ecosystem that serves the public interest. Applicants with a focus on one or more of the following areas will be given strong consideration: opinion journalism, international reporting, innovative forms of journalism, newsroom leadership, media ethics, and accountability journalism. We also seek candidates who embody the spirit of Gene Patterson, a courageous editor in the American South who spoke out against racism. The Patterson Professor will be an inspiring mentor and compelling teacher who will lead undergraduate courses in journalism and public policy. Additionally, the Patterson Chair will play a key role in the research and policy engagement activities of the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy.

Candidates should submit a letter of application that describes their journalistic contributions and other relevant work experience, and explains why they are interested in joining the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke. The letter, along with a CV and the names of three references, should be submitted to Bill Adair, chair of the search committee, via the following website: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17709
