General Summary/Purpose

Working in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. This position will perform complex financial analysis and planning to provide management with data and recommendations used to establish financial goals and objectives.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendations to critical financial business decisions. Perform financial and planning activities in support of various functions, e.g. budgeting, auditing, financial planning, taxes and consolidation. Extract financial data from various accounting and information systems to perform complex statistical, cost and financial analyses of financial reports and data, and prepare subsequent narrative analysis for management.
  • Interpret and review data to evaluate and determine past financial performance and/or financial projections and assist management in making overall business decisions.
  • Serves as a key contributor in the development of the annual operating plan. Analyze, coordinate and consolidate departmental financial information for the development of the divisional fiscal year annual operating budget.
  • Makes budget adjustments and implement other cost improvement measures. Use appropriate cost rates, such as indirect and benefit rates for proposed budgets. Prepare and defend budget proposals to senior management.
  • Analyze, extract, and define relevant complex, financial data; plan and conduct complex studies to determine cost and financial results of business activities and improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the division. Review financial needs and explore alternative financing methods
  • Develop and distribute periodic profit and loss statements by faculty, service line, and/or geography. May analyze and report on faculty productivity and related compensation.
  • Workflow day-to-day transactions, processing and/or approving cost & revenue transfers, invoices, purchase orders, procurement card, and expense reimbursements.
  • Review proposed operating and financial plans, including proposed program increases, estimated costs and expenses to finance proposed programs. Recommend course of action to improve financial performance.
  • Evaluate and analyze capital expenditures proposals, profit plans, operating records and financial statements.
  • Monitor and maintain divisional control salary, default accounts, discretionary balances, and effort reporting. Advise on required action to resolve funding short falls.
  • Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages and graphics package to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
  • This position reports directly to the Division’s Finance Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or other related field required.
  • Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience. Master's in a related field may substitute for some experience; Additional experience may substitute for education to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency formula.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.

* JHU Equivalency Formula:30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with VBA, SAP (ECC and/or Business Warehouse/Analysis), Concur, EPSi, and MedVitals preferred, but not required.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
