Job Summary/Basic Function
The State University of New York, College at Canton invites applications for the position of Director of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Director of the One Hop Shop Student Service Center, the director has primary responsibility for leadership, planning, resource management and administrative oversight of the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office at SUNY Canton assists prospective students, current students, and their families in identifying the necessary financial resources to attend SUNY Canton, including financial aid advising, processing and facilitating the financial aid application process and providing sound strategies in budgeting, alternative aid sources and debt management during and after college.
Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job
Essential Functions:
The Director administers all federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures relating to student financial aid, student employment & scholarships, creating budget projections coordinating the day-to-day management of the Financial Aid Office, supervising office staff, preparing all federal, state, and institutional reports pertaining to aid/scholarships such as FISAP, FADS, NCAA, etc. and serving as liaison to state and federal funding agencies. Additional responsibilities include:
Oversee administration of the Title IV Federal Financial Aid Program: PELL Grants, SEOG, College Work Study, Stafford Loans, Plus Loans, and other loans and programs that may be established. Oversee administration of New York State aid: TAP Grant, State scholarships including the Excelsior Scholarship.
Serve as an active member of various committees throughout SUNY Canton and/or on state/regional financial aid organizations as may be appropriate.
Coordinate provision of services to stakeholders and maintain a complete understanding of all University, State and Federal financial aid rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Review and update the Federal Program Participation Agreement ( PPA ).
Develop and implement both short and long-range goals and objectives for the Office of Financial Aid.
Assist in counseling students, parents, etc. regarding financial aid eligibility and debt management matters, as well as analysis and awarding of financial aid funds.
Promote collaboration with all units of the college to support student learning and student success.
Develop, design, revise, and update all publications (website, college catalog, and other media) relating to financial aid, such as financial aid applications, forms used for tracking applications, correspondence forms, and brochures.
Develop strategies to support enrollment & retention that aligns with institutional goals and objectives and that comply with federal and state regulations.
Present financial aid workshops for prospective students & parents and make visits to area schools and career fairs to promote financial aid availability to students.
Provide opportunities for financial aid staff to receive regular training and professional development.
Maintain active membership and participation in professional organizations such as NYSFAAA and NASFAA .
Coordinate audits of financial aid records.
May perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a US Department of Education accredited college or university; minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration role; knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, statutes, campus processes, and awareness of law and policy proposals affecting financial aid service; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; experience developing, organizing, and administering budgets; experienced technology user including enterprise level and desktop tools deployed to improve services; strong personnel management skills including strategic planning, the ability to manage multiple functions, and organize institution resources to meet goals and objectives; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel to state, federal or regional financial aid conferences as necessary.
Must be eligible to access all federal aid websites in order to administer and oversee these sites for all relevant staff. Federal regulations require that the incumbent in this position be in good standing on all
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in financial aid at a college or university; experience in supervision of professional staff; experience with collective bargaining and union contract administration; and, experience with the Ellucian Banner Platform System. Master’s degree preferred.
