9920301 - Mechanical Maintenance

Job Summary
Provide technical supervision of crew leader and air conditioning mechanics in installation, maintenance, and repair of heating and air conditioning systems, units, and related equipment to ensure compliance, efficiency and productivity.

Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Operate and maintain more than 1,800 mechanical systems through efficient and effective management of resources assigned to HVAC shop
  • Ensure compliance with record keeping, code, safety, and environmental standards
  • Stay updated on all relevant codes
  • Manage human resources of shop and provide leadership, supervision, and instruction to personnel assigned to HVAC shop
  • Recommend promotions and salary adjustments
  • Assess manpower needs and capabilities; screen, interview, select, and hire job applicants
  • Complete annual performance evaluations; and impose disciplinary actions
  • Assign schedules and designate areas of responsibility to achieve maximum efficiency
  • Formulate and establish preventive maintenance schedules for all heating and air condition systems, units, and related equipment
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex mechanical problems
  • Test chlorine and repair systems/pumps in University Housing pools
  • Review personnel productivity and workmanship regularly
  • Participate in hiring orientation, training and performance evaluation of department employees
  • Work with Auxiliary Director and Housing's Facility Director in determining equipment needed; design review; etc.
  • Maintain inventory as to eliminate down time production
  • Select materials and equipment at a competitive price
  • Keep daily log time spent on each job and materials used
  • Review accounting records to insure time and materials are charged to correct account
  • Verify payroll data and keep track of subordinates' vacation/annual leave
  • Develop and /or review training programs to keep employees abreast of latest technical information
  • Represent HVAC shop to college community in a manner as to promote good relations
  • Promote, oversee, and follow all safety and other risk management policies in performance of work
  • Lead safety meetings
  • Maintain all shop records
  • Respond to emergency calls related to air conditioning, heating, hot water equipment, and ventilation systems as needed; maintain, repair and clean tools, equipment, assigned service vehicle, and work areas

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Other Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of intensive heating, ventilation and cooling (HVACR) formal training; unrestricted license within HVAC trade

Required Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of related experience

Proposed Salary
$40,200 - $48,860

  • Broad knowledge of mechanical maintenance field
