Position Summary:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CoECS) at the Arkansas State University, Jonesboro invites outstanding candidates for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering with strength in Thermal and Fluid sciences. This is a nine-month appointment beginning in Fall 2021. The position will include responsibilities in teaching, research and service activities
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Expected to strengthen the college’s thermal-fluid sciences area through teaching excellence in undergraduate/graduate courses including (but not limited to) Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics Lab, Heat Transfer, HVAC, and related courses.
- Excellent communication skills, collaborate with existing faculty members, advise undergraduate/graduate students, and develop new courses
- Record of quality teaching, research/scholarship, and industrial experience
- Expertise across a wide variety of research areas including (but not limited to) flow-field visualization/imaging, wind tunnel, turbulent flow, multi-phase flow, phase change, thermal transport, and combustion, etc., based on experimental or computational approach
- Competitive applicants will have demonstrated research expertise and achievements in application areas including, but not limited to, computational fluid dynamics and simulations, design of reactors, renewable energy systems, energy conversion systems, aerospace technology, metallurgy and materials processing, and/or additive manufacturing
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Applicants must have excellent teaching skills in undergraduate/graduate courses including (but not limited to) thermodynamics-I, thermodynamics-II, fluid mechanics, fluids lab, heat transfer, and/or HVAC, etc. Qualified candidates will have excellent communication skills, collaborate with existing faculty members, advise undergraduate/graduate students, and develop new courses

Minimum Qualifications:
The hired candidate will be expected to acquire Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure in the state of Arkansas during the pre-tenure period. Applicants with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field prior to taking up the position in Fall of 2021
