Job Description Summary
Auburn University is accepting applications for the position of Instructor-Project Archivist in the Special Collections & Archives Department of the University Libraries. This individual will be stationed at the National Park Service, Southeast Region Office in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be required to live full-time in the Atlanta metro region. This position requires overnight travel throughout the National Park Service Southeast Region for as many as three weeks per month. The Instructor-Project Archivist will work under the combined supervision of National Park Service and Auburn University staff. This is a one-year limited term position with the potential for additional one-year extensions if funding is available.
Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications include a MLIS with archival concentration or MA history with a public history or archival concentration at the time of appointment. Qualified candidates will have completed at least nine hours of graduate archival course training in addition to an archival internship or field experience. Qualified candidates must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills; an appreciation for archives; an interest in working for the National Park Service; an ability to work as part of a team; and an ability to travel away from home for as many as three weeks per month. Prior experience with National Park Service is desirable.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications consist of a MLIS degree from an accredited institution; MA History with public history and/or archival concentration from an accredited institution; and/or nine hours of graduate archival course training. Those with some experience surveying, processing, arranging, and describing archival collections and some field experience working in archival settings will be considered highly qualified for this position. Applicants must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.
