Job Summary

The E-Learning Specialist works independently to ensure the provision of a wide range of discipline and degree level specific online services and support to over 100 geographically dispersed faculty. The incumbent also works with the diverse body of geographically dispersed graduate students to help with ensuring their academic success.

The College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE) has two academic programs. The largest program in the College is the School of Information (SOI or iSchool) which offers three master’s degree programs (MLIS, MARA, Informatics), a newly launched undergraduate degree in Information Science and Data Analytics, a post-master’s certificate program in library and information science, and an advanced certificate in the strategic management of digital assets and services. The master’s programs serve over 2300 graduate students drawn from California, other US States, Canada and several other countries. All degrees and certificates are delivered 100% online. All communication with students and faculty is conducted 100% online. As a leader in online education and due to the growth of its programs including the new undergraduate degree, iSchool needs a dedicated e-learning specialist with discipline knowledge to meet accrediting body standards especially for its MLIS program; and to achieve standards identified in the OLC Quality Scorecard for Online Programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement online asynchronous training and help faculty to apply the instruction to a specialized discipline
  • Implement and illustrate a variety of learning formats
  • Instruct faculty in the use of tools such as Canvas Studio, Voice Thread, and lecture capture programs such as Panopto
  • Develop training materials, train, and supervise students to support faculty in synchronous virtual sessions
  • Facilitate learning in different eLearning platforms as well as have a role of a producer for virtual learning sessions, as needed
  • Deliver, via a Zoom webinar platform, recruiting open houses for prospective MLIS students in the School of Information working collaboratively with the Associate Director and the Student Outreach Specialist.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of methods, procedures, and policies of the College’s online programs -especially the School of Information online degrees and certificates.
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated ability to use instructional software applications such as: Canvas, Zoom, Drupal, WordPress, Voice thread, Panopto; also, university systems such as: PeopleSoft, Google Apps, MS Office, Qualtrics.
  • Ability to scale training to new platforms as they are introduced.
  • Knowledge and skills to integrate technical tools and applications into faculty instructional courses and into student peer mentor training
  • Knowledge of training theory and practices demonstrated by an ability to develop and deliver technical training and user documentation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study.
  • Five years of experience supporting information systems and technology.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience with technology delivery and training in library and information science or in digital archives and digital curation

Classification: Information Technology Consultant – Expert
Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,249/month - $8,000/month
Hiring Range: $6,249/month - $12,100/month
