Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Medicines for All Institute (M4All), operating under the auspices of the VCU College of Engineering, is designed to improve access to affordable, high-quality medicines. M4All received significant support from the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation ( BMGF ) as part of its mission to improve global health access. In support of their mission, M4All is seeking applications for the position of Research Technician. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day activities required to support the goals of a large research lab as well the efforts of the Chief Technical Officer ( CTO ) of M4All.
Specifically, the duties include:

• Facilitate research in the laboratory by ensuring the supply of needed materials for all projects
• Assist in the completion of lab functions essential to maintaining overall laboratory efficiency
• Perform monitoring and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Perform general clerical tasks necessary for daily lab operations
• Assist research personnel with more complex experiments and procedures
• Under the direction of the CTO, edit and review manuscripts, proposals, and other documents

Minimum Hiring Standards

• The College of Engineering supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment. The candidate will demonstrate experience that shows their commitment to fostering such an environment.
• B.S. in Chemistry or related field; or training and equivalent work experience at a level that equates to a degree.
• Experience with standard chemistry lab instrumentation and techniques
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel
• Commitment to maintaining a high level of integrity
• Strong communication skills, orally and written with a strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated history of accurate and thorough scientific documentation
• Understanding of chemical and lab safety policies and procedures
• Willingness to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
• Able to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
• Able to work occasional weekends

Preferred Hiring Standards

• Willing to participate in daily lab maintenance and upkeep
• Proficient in formatting and editing papers and presentations
• Experience with assisting in the development SOPs and other technical documents
• Ability and desire to stay current by reading relevant scientific literature
