About the Opportunity:
The Assistant Director of Financial Counseling Services, Roux Institute is responsible for assisting with the coordination and selection of recipients for the Roux Institute's generous scholarship programs, compiling and analyzing the data necessary to make appropriate selections, producing reporting to continue the promotion of fundraising for scholarships, and counseling prospective students on all financial opportunities that help to pay for the remaining balance of their program's tuition. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for providing counseling services to students around the topics of bill payment, long term financing options for student charges, payment plan and student loan opportunities.

The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Roux Institute's Enrollment and Learner Services teams as well as Northeastern University's central teams, including the Director of Graduate Financial Aid, Advancement, and the individual Colleges at Northeastern to ensure accurate awarding and reporting of all Roux Institute funds. Additionally, the Assistant Director will work with the office of Student Accounts to facilitate bill payment plans and activities.

Working with the Director of Graduate Financial Aid and the Office of Student Accounts, the Assistant Director represents Student Financial Services when working with the Roux Institute enrollment team to recruit, enroll, financially counsel and retain students, including attending any enrollment and recruitment events, such as open houses, orientations, and online presentations.

Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director advises and counsels a caseload of Roux Institute students/families on the availability of financial aid, the delivery process for receiving it, and the reconciliation processes required to ensure that financial aid funds are transferred to student accounts. The Assistant Director reviews student applications, performs verification procedures, reviews/evaluates appeals, and intercedes for students with participating departments (college admissions and student services departments, the Registrar's Office, OGS, DCAVS. Etc.). The Assistant Director will provide enhanced financial counseling in order to assist student with financing and paying for their degree, including providing students with a long term plan to finance their degree including all offered scholarships, loans, payment plan, employer funding, etc.

Working with the Director of Graduate Financial Aid and the Student Account Office, assist in training and advising the members of the Roux Institute Student Enrollment team on policies and procedures relating to the administration and processing of all SFS related functions around financial aid and student account activities.

The Assistant Director will also provide Student Accounts functions as needed, including processing of payments, scholarship checks, advising students on the use of Flywire, reviewing payment plan options and long term financial understanding of paying for a Northeastern education. Processes third-party payments (wires, credit card, checks), adjustments, reconciles accounts, follows through on collection activities for delinquent accounts, de-links students as a result of unresolved delinquent accounts and communicates to students accordingly. Coordinates the process of creating new third party accounts and agreements for Roux Institute students. Creates and maintains documentation related to third party policies and procedures.

The Assistant Director contributes to all shared Student Financial Services and Enrollment Management goals and manages special projects and initiatives as requested.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. 3-5 years' experience in student personnel administration, financial aid required. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of Title IV regulations, federal and institutional need analysis. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Previous experience working with financial aid management platforms required, Knowledge of Powerfaids and/or Banner highly preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce and Banner preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.
