Summary:
Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking an Associate Vice President. The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Major Gifts and Development Programs is a caring, professional, inspiring, and ambitious leader who will drive success in Utah Valley University's (UVU) fundraising.

The AVP manages all aspects of UVU's Major Gift Officers (MGOs) and Gift Planning teams, including: hiring; training; performance management; and college, school, and program assignments; and collaborates closely with deans and program directors. The AVP manages the Donor Relations and Annual Giving departments, including donor engagement and stewardship programs; the President's Emerald Society (UVU's most engaged donors); and all aspects of alumni and community annual giving.

The successful candidate will lead with exceptional care for donors and staff, while focusing clearly on strategy, accountability, and results. The AVP also oversees a portfolio of principal major donors and cultivates relationships with high-net-worth individuals and potential corporate partners.

The AVP collaborates with and advises the President and Vice President of Institutional Advancement (IA) on university fundraising priorities and strategies; works closely with other areas of campus and IA to accomplish fundraising goals; and serves on the IA Executive Team and IA Leadership Team.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a directly related field, plus four years of experience related to the Summary of Duties of the position or any combination of higher education and/or directly related experience totaling eight years.

Knowledge:

  • Fundraising procedures and techniques, including the ability to apply this knowledge and mentor others to do the same.
  • Gift planning strategies and techniques.
  • Management and administration, including preparation and analysis of budgets and the review of expenditures in conformity with budgets.
  • Interpersonal skills to manage professional staff and adhere to UVU Policies and Procedures.
  • Team leadership, including career development and feedback-giving.
  • Comprehensive fundraising campaigns

Skills:
  • Proven fundraising track record.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong aptitude with standard office productivity software, which must include MS Office programs.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Abilities:
  • Plan strategically, think critically, and communicate effectively.
  • Motivate others and deliver outstanding results by focusing on team effort and collaboration.
  • Able to train and mentor a high-performing team.
  • Work with academic, business, philanthropic, and community leaders, representing UVU in an excellent manner in all external interactions.
  • Understand the comprehensive operation of an institution of higher education.
  • Manage records and databases.
  • Work with high energy, a sense of urgency, and strong accountability.
  • Plan effective fundraising strategies and execute them well.
  • Freely navigate the campus, visit other campus locations, visit donors’ homes and businesses, and attend local and national meetings.
  • Secure personal transportation.


Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)


Physical Requirements:
General office environment requires ability to see, hear, speak, fine hand manipulation for computer work, standing, walking.

Personal transportation will be critical to the successful performance of this role.
